About & sources
Pick My Trip is an independent travel guide for people planning trips abroad from the UK. Every country gets the same practical treatment: when to go, what it costs, the highlights worth building a trip around, and the details that trip you up if you don't know them — plugs, emergency numbers, tipping, tap water.
Where the information comes from
- Travel advice and entry requirements come live from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office via GOV.UK (last checked 21 October 2026), under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We link to the official pages rather than summarising visa rules, because they change often.
- Country guides (highlights, cities, costs, climate, food, practical details) are researched and written for this site and fact-checked against reference sources. Populations are approximate urban-area figures; climate figures are long-term averages; costs are typical 2025–26 estimates in pounds sterling.
- Maps use OpenStreetMap tiles and Natural Earth boundaries. Borders shown are for orientation only and imply no position on disputed territory.
- Exchange rates are indicative mid-market rates from ExchangeRate-API, refreshed daily.
- Emergency numbers come from the FCDO's "Getting help" page for each country, where it lists them.
- Visas: for British passports, the opening of the FCDO entry-requirements page, refreshed with every update. For other passports, the open Passport Index dataset (MIT licence, last updated January 2025) — always confirm with the destination's embassy.
- Vaccinations and malaria summarise TravelHealthPro, from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC). It is not medical advice — see a travel health professional before you go.
- Public holidays come from the open-source python-holidays project (national holidays only).
- Flags from Flagpedia (public domain).
